Henry Hinde Consultation

We invite you to share your views on our plans to explore bringing together Henry Hinde Infant and Junior School onto one site.

Current situation
Henry Hinde Infant and Junior School are 300 yards apart and are legally two separate schools. For example, they each have their own Ofsted report and each have what is known as a Unique Reference Number (URN) - which is how the Department for Education identifies different schools.

However, in reality, the two schools already share leaders, curriculums and approaches. They are also both part of Transforming Lives Educational Trust, and many parents already have to go to both schools at the start/end of the school day.

Currently, both schools can welcome 60 children each year to either their Reception class (for Henry Hinde Infant School), or Year 3 class (for Henry Hinde Junior School). This is known as the Pupil Admissions Number (PAN).

What is the proposal?
Our proposal is to bring the children together at the Junior School on Cornwallis Road from September 2026.

This is an important development for our schools. It will enable us to continue to develop the shared ethos and approaches that have been strengthening over recent years and allow us to use our funding effectively to help us to do more to support every child.

There are several legal steps that need to be consulted on to achieve this. These include:

  • TLET will legally need to close Henry Hinde Infant School.
  • The age range for Henry Hinde Junior School will then change from 7-11 years old to 2-11 years old. At that point, Henry Hinde Junior School will then officially become Henry Hinde School.
  • If all proceeds, with effect from 1 September 2026, the admissions arrangements for Henry Hinde School will change so that we welcome 30 children into Reception each year. This means the school will eventually become a one-form entry primary with up to 210 children.

This would be the only change to the existing admissions arrangements. A copy of the proposed admissions arrangements can be found here:

Why is this move being taken?

The number of children reaching Reception age in our immediate community is declining, and projections are that this will continue both locally and nationally.

This isn’t just an issue facing us, but the declining birth rate is a national trend. Recently the Office of National Statistics reported that fertility rates in 2024 fell to a record low with the average fertility rate being 1.41 children per female. This is the lowest rate since records began in 1938.

Reducing the PAN helps us to better plan and maintain a sustainable structure for our schools so we can use our funding efficiently and to ensure that resources are targeted to learning.

Warwickshire Local Authority has confirmed that there will be no disadvantage to the local community by doing this.

Crucially, Warwickshire Local Authority have stated that there will be no disadvantage to the local community by reducing the PAN.

Key information

It is important to stress that:

  • All children currently at Henry Hinde Infant School will automatically be transferred to Henry Hinde School.
  • There will be investment in the Henry Hinde Junior School site. This will enhance the learning environment for all children, but will primarily focus on providing age-appropriate learning environments for younger children.
  • Due to the declining birthrate, there will not be an adverse effect on the community moving forward. Furthermore, this move will enable us to focus more funding on what happens in the classroom, rather than on the heating and maintenance of two buildings.
  • The aim is for the Infant School site to be returned to the Local Authority to determine how to use it in the future. At this stage, it is anticipated that the site will continue to be used for educational purposes.
  • We are currently exploring ways to reduce traffic to the site. This will include walking buses, looking at other parking options and exploring potential traffic calming solutions with the Local Authority.

Consultation

The consultation will run from Friday 28 November 2025 to 17:00 on Friday 9 January 2026. This is six weeks.

During this time, any member of our school’s community is invited to express their views about the proposed changes by completing this survey.
